Antonio Sant’Elia: A Futuristic-Focused Architect in Interior Design History

Antonio Sant'Elia, an Italian architect born in Como in 1888, was a revolutionary figure in the early 20th-century architectural landscape. As a key member of the Futurist movement, Sant'Elia's visionary designs and theoretical contributions left an indelible mark on the field of architecture. This grand urban plan was conceived in 1914 and envisioned a futuristic, vertically-oriented metropolis that would seamlessly integrate machines, technology, and modernity. The New City was designed to be a utopian response to the perceived shortcomings of existing urban spaces. Sant'Elia's intricate drawings and elaborate sketches showcased a landscape filled with soaring skyscrapers, elevated roadways, and interconnected networks of transport systems.

Sant'Elia's architectural style anticipated many of the principles that would come to define the International Style, characterized by clean lines, functionalism, and a rejection of ornamentation.

Sant'Elia's influence on the world of architecture can still be seen today.
